ABOVE THE BRIM … with ERIC JACKSON

Sure, its tough being on top. On the mountain its how you get to the bottom that makes the King of the hill. Professional Snowboard pheom ERIC JACKSON is regarded as one of the best to hit the mountains. As half of the Jackson Brothers, (JOHN and ERIC JACKSON, no Tito and Jermaine here.), EJACKS has made a name for himself riding for some of the most respected snowboard brands in the business. Besides his love for snow and fishing, ERIC is a die-hard fitted fan. ERIC JACKSON takes a break and weighs in with STRICTLY FITTEDS about his views on the sport and his cap of choice.

The full interview follows after the jump >>
sFs: With fame comes the press and ultimately interviews. What’s the
least favourite question that you get asked?
EJ: It’s not necessaraly my least favorite but the most common is prolly,
where or how’s your brother??
sFs: What’s the answer? LOL.
EJ: I usually say he’s chillin or on a trip somewhere.
sFs: Snowboards and fitted caps? Explain that unlikely combo.
EJ: I dunno, that’s just how it is.
sFs: Snowboarding looks fluid and rhythmic. What’s ERIC JACKSON’s
soundtrack on the slopes?
EJ: Music is good to shred with for sure, i’ll throw on some Reggae. If i’m
riding pow and like some NAS or Wu Tang for the park.
sFs: Does ERIC JACKSON refer to ERIC JACKSON in third person?
EJ: Sometimes, I guess, like I’ll say… “EJACK needs a jelly donut or something.

sFs: Here’s a controversial topic: CAP SWAPPING. Are you for or against it?
EJ: Definitely against it, it’s my own.
sFs: Sizing stickers; FLASH IT or TRASH IT?
EJ: I don’t get it. I guess I trash it..
sFs: What would you consider to be your greatest achievement in the
sport to date? What are you latest personal goals?
EJ: I got the cover of Standard films movie “Draw the Line” last season. I thought that was pretty dope. I had surgery on my knee in June so my goal has just been to get strong again, it’s going super good.

sFs: How do you control your sense of fear when you are doing some of
those extreme jumps, flips and inclines?
EJ: Sometimes fear is a good thing to have, it almost keeps you in check in certain situations, but its always fun to scare yourself once in a while.
sFs: What was the hardest trick for you to master?
EJ: I’m still mastering but f/s inverts can give me trouble sometimes.
sFs: What was the worst wipe out you’ve had? Stitches? Broken bones?
EJ: Concussions? All of the above?well we call it a slam and slams happen all the time, they just do, but the the most recent one was in whistler B,C. I messed myself up. It was violent.
sFs: Double ouch.
sFs: How important is brand strength to you when you are approached by a sponsor? Outside of the endorsement dollars, what do these companies bring to the sport and to you as an athlete?
EJ: Brand strength is good, I feel like everyone I represent are good people and I’m stoked to be a part of that.
sFs: Most people who wear fitteds aren’t baseball players. Why do you think Baseball caps have had such great cross over appeal?
EJ: ‘Cuz they clean …

sFs: Can you remember your first fitted cap?
EJ: Yea, I still have it – a suede LA fitted… ill.
sFs: What experience does your sport offer that no other can?
EJ: I get to ride in a heli (helicopter) pretty often. Not to many sports offer that.

sFs: Do you feel the increased exposure/interest in snow boarding has been good for the sport or do you believe it has dilluted the true essence of it?
EJ: It’s good for sure, but I still try to just ride pow and keep it true.
sFs: How often do you wear fitted caps?
EJ: Every day, you’ll rarely see me out without one.

sFs: Name three most common stereotypes associated with your sport.
EJ: Fishing, golfing and skating.
sFs: There are tons of choices in brands and styles of fitted baseball
caps. What qualities makes a fitted cap a MUST HAVE purchase?
EJ: I get fitteds that match shoes and other stuff, so if I got something ill and a hat goes with it, it’s prolly a must have.
sFs: Thanks for spending time with us, any shout outs?
EJ: Yea stoked to do it. Holla at Brett, John J, Tales, Bunzz all the homies and hunnies. One
