Baseball caps to rappers is like cheddar to crackers, but I didn’t intend for that to rhyme. Fitteds are the undisputed headwear of Hip Hip, much like how the cowboy hat is to Country Music. The odd twist here is that Country music has deep roots in ranching, farming and rural life. Hip Hop however didn’t start out in the infield, or the dugout. Regardless of genisis, the fitted baseball cap is securely cemented in Hip Hop culture. If I had a dollar for ever cap I saw on NahRight, I might not be typing this at 2am.

J.O.S.E.2 represents FAT JOE’s 9th studio album. (We suggested J.O.S.E.P.H. – Jealous Ones Should Enthusiastically Pay Homage, but ‘ey what the blogclot do we know?) The native Bronx Bomber and 18 year vet on the mic is sporting a Seattle Mariners fitted on the cover in a portrait montage. Not a bad look, not a bad photo, but we’re betting dollars to donuts that was the stylist’s choice was based on the color of that jacket he’s wearing. But to keep it 1000 with you, the cover of ME MYSELF & I features a close up portrait of “The Don” in a Tonal Black Yankees cap. A little closer to home.

Part product placement, part fashion statement, the humble baseball cap stays current culturally on or off the playing field. J.O.S.E. 2 in stores May 19th.
