With the popularity of fitted hats growing each day, there are some evil do-ers looking to capitalize through the sale of fakes through eBay. Here are some buying tips to protect yourself against fakes. Full details after the jump.

- PEEP THE AUCTION. Does the price have a low BIN (buy it now) price? By low, I mean below retail/street value? Does the seller have a picture of the actual product or a generic image you could have googled? Most sellers now days have tagged pictures of the actual product which proves 2 things; 1) that they actually have the product and 2) the item can be checked for discrepancies.

- PEEP THE SELLER. Does the seller have multiple auctions of the same product? This can be suspicious if the product was a limited release. Why would a seller have 20 hats on auction if the product was only limited to 60 hats at release? Does the seller use the same picture in each auction (careful, they may use the same tagged pic in multiple auctions)? Also check feedback… If a dealer has a record of complaints of selling fakes then it’s a no-brainer that it’s probably not legit. This is a double edged sword though as some fake dealers have 100% feedback. When in doubt, check the current and past auctions for suspicious activity. If I have any doubt about the seller’s legitness, a simple google search of the username doesn’t hurt. There maybe complaints posted against that seller on other sites.

- LEGIT CHECK. Some forum sites such as NikeTalk and Sole Collector have legit check threads and guides where you can compare real products vs known fakes.

Common sense is the biggest tool in fighting fakes. If it is too good to be true, it probably is! Until next time, bid safe!
