CUSTOM CORNER : HANYA

This CUSTOM CORNER submission comes from a long time STRICTLY FITTEDS reader as well as cap enthusiast who wished to remain anonymous. Pictured above is a pair of genuine New Era 59Fifty fitted caps. The process is detailed as follows and truly is the epitome of the phrase “By Any Means Necessary”.
Both hats were done about a year ago but I forgot about the project until I recently did some cleaning. The hat on the left started it’s life as a Pittsburgh Pirates New Era MLB 59Fifty Authentic while the hat on the right started out as a Black and Green LA Dodgers New Era 59Fifty cap. I started the customization process by manually pulling/unstitching each thread one by one through the face of the cap, as opposed to the inside. This process is very tedious and time consuming. Luckily for me I don’t do much at work so I actually completed both hats in 2 shifts. The hat on the left took about 4-5 hours to unstitch while the hat on the left took about 8 hours due to some mistakes on my fault. To anyone looking to replicate the process, I suggest investing in a good pair of sewing scissors and some durable tweezers. After getting ALL the embroidery out of the cap, I had my embroidery connect stitch on the custom design of a Hanya, a Japanese devil or demon, which my connect designed on his embroidery machine from the tattoo on my back. I wanted to have raised embroidery like the New Era hats originally had but the design is too thin. The MLB man on the back of both hats also got unstitched. This process took about 4 hours each since the embroidery is very tight. All in all, i’m happy with the way my caps came out although it was time consuming. Unfortunately I can’t supply any more pics since I gave away both caps as gifts to close friends but I do plan to do a couple of more in the near future.
