ATTICA-JAILHOUSE-BALLCAPS-Washington-Diplomats-Custom-Fitted-Caps_2

ATTICA JAILHOUSE BALLCAPS treats another moment of obscure sports history in the form of a customized fitted ball cap. The original Washington Diplomats first came into being when, in 1974, the North American Soccer League(NASL) granted a franchise to a Washington, D.C. based business group. The team played their home games atRFK Stadium except for 1976 when they played at W.T. Woodson High School in Northern Virginia. After a lackluster beginning to the franchise, the Diplomats qualified for the playoffs and increased average game attendance in each of their last three years of existence. Additionally, in their final year, the Diplomats were able to sign the future European Player of the Century Johan Cruyff. After the 1980 season the Diplomats folded when then owner, the Madison Square Garden Corp., had accumulated losses of $6 million and team president Steve Danzansky could not gather enough money to keep the team alive. The cheerleaders for the original Diplomats were known as the Honeydips. The team also ran ad campaigns calling themselves “the Dips.”

Filed under: ATTICA JAILHOUSE — Tim at 12:00 am on Thursday, August 12, 2010

ATTICA JAILHOUSE is back again, this time bringing another piece of the past into the present. There were many sluggers back in the day whose legend still lives on including Hank Aaron, Jackie Robinson, Babe Ruth, and Roberto Clemente. This custom fitted cap was created from a patch found on a vintage jacket from the 1960s. The colors on this hat are Gold, White, and Black. Authenticity flows from this cap like a river; a baseball slugger felt-applique logo is hand-sewn onto this piece. For all of the vintage collectors, there is only a size 7 1/4 up for grabs. The race is on…
