Released in September 2008, the collaboration between Cali titans THE HUNDREDS and HALL OF FAME would go down as a monumental success story. The cap released featured the beloved Hundreds character, Adam Bomb, flipped upside down on the front panels and the Hall of Fame logo on the back panels. Quantities were limited to a miniscule 100 caps and split between Hall of Fame in LA and The Hundreds in San Francisco. No surprises here, the cap was sold out instantly and instantly became one of the most coveted caps of 2008.

In a move of desperate liquidation, eBay seller 1PSFG is offering a Vintage Baltimore Orioles New Era 59Fifty fitted cap lot of 30 caps for the smashingly low price of $41.99… These caps are at least circa early 1990s with the older style “Pro Model” tag, “Authentic MLB Diamond Collection” tag, White size tag, and Kelly Green underbill. This cap lot offers small sizes ranging from 6 5/8 to 7. When broken down, each cap comes to a unit price of $1.40, not including shipping. What a steal…

Nostalgia auction house LELANDS brought another special piece of baseball history to the block. This is fitted baseball cap belonged to the legendary “Babe” Ruth, aka Great Bambino aka the Sultan of Swat. Fear the Curse of the Bambino. This Red and Navy Boston Braves cap was worn by Ruth during his final season as a professional ball player. Best known as a New York Yankee, Ruth was sold in 1934 to the Massachusetts franchise, finishing his days in uniform there. In a historic 20+ year career, Babe Ruth racked up 714 Home Runs, 2,873 hits, sent 2,217 players to home base, and maintained a .342 career batting average. The auction closed on December 4th, 2009 at a staggering $30,250.00

The collaboration between San Francisco superpower HUF and Dutch filmmaker and photographer ARI MARCOPOULOS resulted in the “Huf x Ari” New Era 59Fifty fitted cap in August 2007. The cap incorporated photographs throughout Marcopoulos’ career into the cap with the aftereffect being mass demand. To put it bluntly, this cap was straight fire. Everywhere that dropped the cap was met with campouts, long lines, and instant sellout. At it’s peak, i’ve personally witnessed this cap going for the insane price of $200+.

The Summer of 2007 may be remembered by many as the endless summer of HUF producing many New Era 59Fifty classics such as the Huf 3M Reflective pack, 12 Galaxies pack, Huf-Ari Marcopoulos collaboration, as well as the Huf-KICKS/HI collaboration.

While all of these hats were extremely limited and still sought after today, the Huf-Kicks/HI collaboration in particular was sought after not only because of the limited number (rumored to be at 66 in total, 33 at Huf and 33 at Kicks/HI) but also because of the random print in each hat. Each hat used a 70’s inspired Hawaiian cartoon theme and is cut in such a fashion that no 2 hats are alike. At the Kicks/HI release, only a handful of people were lucky enough to grab a cap, let alone the right size. Resell value in the months following the release was crazy, seeing sales and auctions end upwards towards the $300 mark.

Those lucky enough to fit a 7 5/8 have the opportunity to win this extremely limited grail. eBay user “donpoppa” who has 100% feedback, is selling off his Huf fitted collection which includes this gem. In particular this cap is lucky enough to have the random print of the hula girl and surfer boy characters on the front. Japan based APPLEBUM followed their early 2008 Babylon View release with this year’s MLB Yankees Babylon View in early 2009. Needless to say despite two limited runs in the nocturnal high rise view print, both releases sold out almost instantly. Those lucky enough to live in Japan had a hard enough time getting the hat and what few made it stateside had an even harder time.

That being said, this is where auction sites come into play, granting those who missed out on limited releases a 2nd chance. YAHOO AUCTIONS JAPAN is to Japan as eBay is to the United States. For years it’s been a secret goldmine for sneakerheads trying to cop the latest JDM release or that original release that never would pop up in the states. The only downside is that most Yahoo Auctions Japan users will only ship within Japan. Over the past year or so, many JDM streetwear exclusives have popped up on this site, and for those wanting the Applebum Yankees Babylon View, here’s their lucky chance…

While browsing around eBAY you can’t help but find a couple of overlooked items. On this trip we came upon a Bucky Lasek “Capture The Flag” NEW ERA fitted cap, with only 180 out of 200 released for this event a couple years back, these are hard to come upon.
