Representing the city of Amarillo, Texas the Amarillo Gold Sox were a minor league baseball playing in the Texas League. The franchise began in 1939. From 1960- 1962, the Gold Sox were a AA farm affiliate of the New York Yankees. A young Jim Bouton earned his stripes playing for the Sox before being called up to the Yankees. Bouton later earned literary fame, penning the book “Ball Four”. In 1961 the Amarillo Gold Sox won the 1961 regular-season title.
