These are probably a familiar sight to caddies and car Mechanics. These plastic inserts are safety devices made to provide some protection while wearing your favorite ball cap. The liners are notched specifically for use with ::shudder:: snapback caps, but we see no reason these can’t be use for fitted caps. There are multiple versions available on the market.
US Patent 5289591, filed in 1991 is listed as hard ball golf hat. To summarise the legalise of it: A protective plastic insert is provided for a conventional golf cap. The shape and hardness of the plastic protect the wearer against the impact of a stray golf ball.
We’ve had our share of knocks from misjudging distances and the occasional head butt. Not that we’re suggesting you slip one of these liners and play stunt crash dummy, but it might spare you some stitches and/or knots while out on the green getting your Tiger Woods on. You might consider this an early Christmas-Hanukkah-Kwanzaa-Festivus gift for that accident prone cousin of yours. Pictured here is a liner made by brand Vulcan, available at TUFF RHINO.
