UNIWATCH happens to be one of our favorite blogs for all things related to sports uniforms and design. They recently ran a post about an rare San Diego Padres baseball cap that was worn during the ‘72 season. The twist is the wide-spanning Yellow panel on the front panels. Several readers from the era commented on the rare style, sparking a full on historical mystery. Hardcore Padres fan Robert Walker offered: “That cap was only used in ’72, only on Sundays, and (from what I have found) only for home games.” UNIWATCH is currently on a fact finding mission to confirm the statement. While you are waiting take a look a some classic images from a Padres 1972 program.

This post is hardly for the majority. But for the discriminating few collectors out there, this is a pure gold. Pictured here is a genuine blank NEW ERA fitted baseball cap with a Grey under bill. Before these were phased out of production in the Ninties, you could find these on the regular - perfect blank canvases for custom embroidery. What makes these two particularly interesting are a few minor details, like the vintage tapes and tags on the interior. One lacks the NE flag logo hit on the side - a tell tale sign of an older deadstock cap. Sometimes you want to step out in something super clean and still make a statement.

HIGHSNOBIETY x NEW ERA Empire Fitted Cap

Filed under: Rare & Unreleased, Window Shopper — MadCapsules at 2:00 am on Sunday, July 26, 2009

HIGH SNOBIETY makes it’s New Era collaboration debut with the New Era Empire fitted cap. Shooting for something different than the typical 59Fifty, High Snobiety opted to use the shorter brimmed Empire cap. Coincidently, this also marks the debut of the Empire cap outside of Japan, with more styles soon to follow.

The hat itself made it’s debut at the BREAD AND BUTTER BERLIN event earlier this month, given out to friends and family. The hat itself is limited to 144 pieces and over the next few weeks will be given out to a limited amount of lucky High Snobiety readers. The Empire fitted takes the picnic theme with a Blue/White checkerboard pattern as well as “THF BBB 2009″ embroidered on back (THF is airport code for TEMPELHOF, the site of BBB this year).

Filed under: Rare & Unreleased, Vintage — Honcho at 3:00 am on Wednesday, December 10, 2008

We respect our history and we ♥ vintage gear. When franchises migrate from city to city, it kicks up plenty of dust and bad blood. The Dodgers may call LA home, but the pride remains strong in BK. ROBERT EDWARDS AUCTION recently sold a historic peace of baseball memrobilia. This Brooklyn Dodgers professional model cap is attributed to Dodgers’ team captain and Hall of Fame shortstop Pee Wee Reese during the 1955 World Championship season. The Blue wool cap features an embroidered white “B” on the front and a white button along the top. A “McAuliffe” label appears along the back of the interior headband, as does a stamp reading “Pro KM Cap.” The cap displays light-to-moderate wear throughout including soiling along the interior headband. The cap’s documented history strongly supports its identification as a Brooklyn Dodgers cap worn by Pee Wee Reese in 1955 and at the very least was graded such by Mears. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS as an authentic 1950s Brooklyn Dodgers cap. At the auction close this cap sold for $1,044.00. One more image and DJ CLARK KENT’s TOP 5 Brooklyn tracks after the jump. GO BROOKLYN!
